This section is simply to point out, in the simplest way and using only official LDS materials, places where LDS doctrine contradicts LDS doctrine.

[Personal Note] There are many sources I originally used here, sources that came from the 1830 version of the Book of Mormon, as well as Doctrines from Elders from the early years of the LDS, but, after a few conversations with wonderfully faithful Mormon Missionaries (Elders) – and after spending a few hours in my home with some humble ‘Elders’ – I realized that (a) They are taught that the Book of Mormon has never been changed and has always been the same and (b) they are taught that all the literature written from ex-Mormons and literature that has been removed from their church documents either, never happened or was written as false ‘anti-Mormon’ literature.  Because of this, I felt that the best course of action would be to share with them from only sources that the Latter-Day Saints Official Website uses.

Using only their approved sources, I have discovered the following points of Mormon contradiction with Mormon Doctrine

1. God’s Decrees Are Unalterable VS God Changes His Decrees If He Chooses To

a. Alma 41:8: “Now, the decrees of God are unalterable; therefore, the way is prepared that whosoever will may walk therein and be saved.”

b. Doc & Cov., 56:4: “Wherefore I, the Lord, command and revoke, as it seemeth me good; and all this to be answered upon the heads of the rebellious, saith the Lord.

Source: <https://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/56?lang=eng>

5 Wherefore, I revoke the commandment which was given unto my servants Thomas B. Marsh and Ezra Thayre, and give a new commandment unto my servant Thomas, that he shall take up his journey speedily to the land of Missouri, and my servant Selah J. Griffin shall also go with him. 6 For behold, I revoke the commandment which was given unto my servants Selah J. Griffin and Newel Knight, in consequence of the stiff-neckedness of my people which are in Thompson, and their rebellions. 7 Wherefore, let my servant Newel Knight remain with them; and as many as will go may go, that are contrite before me, and be led by him to the land which I have appointed. 8 And again, verily I say unto you, that my servant Ezra Thayre must repent of his pride, and of his selfishness, and obey the former commandment which I have given him concerning the place upon which he lives. 9 And if he will do this, as there shall be no divisions made upon the land, he shall be appointed still to go to the land of Missouri; 10 Otherwise he shall receive the money which he has paid, and shall leave the place, and shall be cut off out of my church, saith the Lord God of hosts;

*Personal Note: It is an affront to the Gospel to use the name of the Lord in vain to manipulate people. And reading the rest of this message by Joseph Smith, it is clear that he committed these offenses. All evidence of a false prophet:

  1. Abused any so-called authority that he claimed to have
  2. Manipulated members of the church with Fear
  3. Used the Name of the Lord (via false prophecy in His name)
  4. Mocked the Power of God’s salvation
  5. Falsely accused God being a liar by claiming he revokes laws.

2. There is NO God but the Lord VS There are Many Gods and Mormons can become one

a1. Pearl of Great Price | Moses 1:6 : “And I have a work for thee, Moses, my son; and thou are in the similitude of mine Only Begotten; and mine Only Begotten is and shall be the Savior, for he is full of grace and truth; but there is no God beside me, and all things are present with me, for I know them all.”

a2. Alma 11:27-39, 44: “(27) And Amulek said, ‘Yea, there is a true and living God.’ (28) Now Zeezrom said: ‘Is there more than one God?’ (29) And he said, ‘No’. (30) Now Zeezrom said unto him again: ‘How knowest thou these things?’ (31) And he said: ‘An angel hath made them known to me.’ (32) And Zeezrom said again: ‘Who is he that shall come? Is it the Son of God?” (33) And he said unto him: ‘Yea’. (34) And Zeezrom said again: ‘Shall he save his people from their sins?’ And Amulek answered and said unto him: ‘I say unto you, he shall not, for it is impossible for him to deny his word.’ (35) Now Zeezrom said unto the people: See that ye remember these things; for he said there is but one God; yet he saith that the Son of God shall come, but he shall not save his people—as though he had authority to command God.’ (36) Now Amulek saith again unto him: Behold thou hast lied, for thou sayest that I spake as though I had authority to command God because I he shall not save his people in their sins. (37) And I say unto you again that he cannot save them in their sins; for I cannot deny his word, and he hast hath said that no unclean thing can inherit the kingdom of heaven? Therefore, ye cannot be saved in your sins. (38) Now Zeezrom saith unto him: Is the Son of God the very Eternal Father? (39) And Amulek said unto him: Yea, he is the very Eternal Father of heaven and of earth, and all things which in them are; he is the beginning and the end, the first and the last; …(44) Now, this restoration shall come to all, both old and youth, both bond and free, both male and female, both the wicked and the righteous; and even there not so much as a hair of their heads be lost; but every thing shall be restored to its perfect frame, as it is now, on in the body, and shall be brought and be arraigned before the bar of Christ the Son, and God the Father, and the Holy Spirit, which is one Eternal God, and be judged according to their works, whether they be good or whether they be evil.

a3. 2 Nephi 31:21: And now, behold, my beloved brethren, this is the way; and there is none other way nor name given under heaven whereby man can be saved in the kingdom of God. And now, behold, this is the doctrine of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, which is one God, without end. Amen.

a4. Mormon 7:7: And he hath brought to pass the redemption of the world, whereby he that is found guiltless before him at the judgement day hath it given unto him to dwell in the presence of God in his kingdom, to sing ceaseless praises with the choirs above, unto the Father, and unto the Son, and unto the Holy Ghost, which are one God, in the state of happiness which hath no end.

a5. 3 nephi 11:27: And after this manner shall ye baptize in my name; for behold, verily I say unto you, that the Father, and the Son, and the Holy Ghost are one; and I am in the Father, and the Father in me, and the Father and I are one.

b1. Joseph Smith declared (‘The King Folletti Sermon): “Here , then, is eternal life—to know the only wise and true God; and you have got to learn how to be gods yourself, and to be kings and priests to God, the same as all gods have done before you, namely, by going from one small degree to another, and from one capacity to a great one; from grace to grace, from exaltation to exaltation, until you attain the resurrection of the dead, and are able to dwell in everlasting burnings, and to sit in glory, as do those who sit enthroned in everlasting power.

b2. D&C 121:32: According to that which was ordained in the midst of the Council of the Eternal God of all other gods before this world was, that should be reserved unto the finishing and the end therefor, when every man shall enter into his eternal presence and into his immortal rest.

b3. D&C 132:18-20,37 : (18) And again, verily I say unto you, if a man marry a wife, and make a covenant with her for time and for all eternity, if that covenant is not by me or by my word, which is my law, and is not sealed by the Holy Spirit of promise, through him whom I have anointed and appointed unto this power, then it is not valid neither of force when they are out of the world, because they are not joined by me, saith the Lord, neither by my word; when they are out of the world it cannot be received there, because the angels and the gods are appointed there, by whom they cannot pass; they cannot, therefore, inherit my glory; for my house is a house of order, saith the Lord God. (19) And again, verily I say unto you, if a man marry a wife by my word, which is my law, and by the new and everlasting covenant, and it is sealed unto them by the Holy Spirit of promise, by him who is anointed, unto whom I have appointed this power and the keys of this priesthood; and it shall be said unto them—Ye shall come forth in the first resurrection; and if it be after the first resurrection, in the next resurrection; and shall inherit thrones, kingdoms, principalities, and powers, dominions, all heights and depths—then shall it be written in the Lamb’s Book of Life, that he shall commit no murder whereby to shed innocent blood, and if ye abide in my covenant, and commit no murder whereby to shed innocent blood, it shall be done unto them in all things whatsoever my servant hath put upon them, in time, and through all eternity; and shall be of full force when they are out of the world; and they shall pass by the angels, and the gods, which are set there, to their exaltation and glory in all things, as hath been sealed upon their heads, which glory shall be a fullness and a continuation of the seeds forever and ever. (20) Then shall they be gods, because they have no end; therefore shall they be from everlasting to everlasting, because they continue; then shall they be above all, because all things are subject unto them. Then shall they be gods, because they have all power, and the angels are subject unto them. …(37Abraham received concubines, and they bore him children; and it was accounted unto him for righteousness, because they were given unto him, and he abode in my law; as Isaac also and Jacob did none other things than that which they were commanded; and because they did none other things than that which they were commanded, they have entered into their exaltation, according to the promises, and sit upon thrones, and are not angels but are gods.

3. God has Always been God VS God was Not Always God

a1. Moroni 8:18: For I know that God is not a partial God, neither a changeable being; but he is unchangeable from all eternity to all eternity.

a2: Mormon 9:9-10 (9) For do we not read that God is the same yesterday, today, and forever, and in him there is no variableness neither shadow of changing? (10) And now, if ye have imagined up unto yourselves a god who doth vary, and in whom there is shadow of changing, then have ye imagined up upon yourselves a god who is not a God of miracles.

a3. Docs & Cov 20:17: (17) By these things we know that there in a God in heaven, who is infinite and eternal, from everlasting to everlasting the same unchangeable God, the framer of heaven and earth, and all things which are in them.

Source: https://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/20?lang=eng>

b1. Joseph Smith (‘The King Filletti Sermon, April 7, 1844): “We have imagined and supposed that God was God from all eternity. I will refute that idea, and take away the veil, so that you may see.

Source: <https://www.lds.org/ensign/1971/04/the-king-follett-sermon?lang=eng>

4. God Dwells in the hearts of the righteous VS God and Jesus Do Not Dwell in the hearts of the Righteous

a1. Alma 34:36: And this I know, because the Lord hath said he dwelleth not in unholy temples, but in the hearts of the righteous doth he dwell.

b1. Doc & Cov 130:3: The appearing of the Father and the Son, in that verse, is a personal appearance; and the idea that the Father and the Son dwell in a man’s heart is an old sectarian notion, and is false.

5. Man Was Created by God’s Hand VS Man Was Not Created by God’s Hand

a1. Alma 18:32: And Ammon said: Yea, and he looketh down upon all the children of men; and he knows all the thoughts and intents of the heart; for by his hand were they all created from the beginning.

a2. Jacob 4:9: For behold, by the power of his word man came upon the face of the earth, which earth as created by the power of his word. Wherefore, if God being able to speak and the world was, and to speak and man was created, O then, why not able to command the earth, or the workmanship of his hands upon the face of it, according to his will and pleasure.

a3. 2 Nephi 2:13-15: (13) And if there is no God we are not, neither the earth; for there could have been no creation of things, neither to act nor to be acted upon; wherefore, all things must have vanished away. (14) And now, my sons, I speak unto you these things for your profit and learning; for there is a God, and he hast created all things, both the heavens and the earth, and all things that in them are, both things to act and things to be acted upon. (15) And to bring about his eternal purposes in the end of man, after he had created our first parents,

a4. Docs and Cov 20:17: And that he created man, male and female, after his own image and in his likeness he created them.

Source: <https://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/93?lang=eng>

b1. Doc & Cov 93:29: Man was not created he was also in the beginning with God. Intelligence, or the light of truth, was not created or made, neither indeed can be.

6. The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are One God VS The Father, Son, and Holy Spirit are NOT One God.

a1. Doc & Cov 20:27, 28: (27) As well as those who should come after, who should believe in the gifts and callings of God by the Holy Ghost, which beareth record of the Father and of the Son; (28) Which Father, Son, and Holy Ghost are one God, infinite and eternal, without end, Amen.

a2. Alma 11:44: Now, this restoration shall come to all, both old and young, both bond and free, both male and female, both the wicked and the righteous; and even there shall not so much as a hair of their heads be lost; but every thing shall be restored to its perfect frame, as it is now, or in the body, and shall be brought and arraigned before the bar of Christ the Son, and God the Father, and the Holy Spirit, which is One Eternal God, to be judged according to their works, whether they be good or whether they be evil.

a3. Mosiah 15:1-5: (1) And now Abinadi said unto them: I would that ye should understand that God himself shall come down among the children of men, and shall redeem his people. (2) And because he dwelleth in flesh he shall be called the Son of God, and having subjected the flesh to the will of the Father, being the Father and the Son—(3)The Father, because he was conceived by the power of God; and the Son, because of the flesh; thus becoming the Father and Son—(4) And they are one God, yea, the very Eternal Father of heaven and of earth. (5) And thus the flesh becoming subject to the Spirit, or the Son of the Father, being one God, suffereth temptation, and yieldeth not to the temptation, but suffereth himself to be mocked, and scourged, and cast out, and disowned by his people.

a4. 2 Nephi 31:21: And now, behold, my beloved brethren, this in the way; and there is none other way nor name given under heaven whereby man can be saved in the kingdom of God. And now, behold, this is the doctrine of Christ, and the only true doctrine of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, which is one God, without end. Amen.

b1. Joseph Smith, ‘Teachings of the The Prophet Joseph Smith’ / TPJS 372: “Many say there is one God; the Father, the Son, and the Holy Ghost are only one God! I say that is a strange God anyhow – three in one, and one in three! (1) All are to be crammed into one God, according to sectarianism. It would make the biggest God in all the world. He would be a wonderfully big God – he would be a giant of monster.”

7. Hell is Eternal Punishment VS Hell is Not Eternal: Everyone Will be Saved

a1. Mosiah 27:31: Yea, every knee shall bow, and every tongue confess before him. Yea, even at the last day, when all men shall stand to be judged of him, then shall they confess that he is God; then shall they confess, who live without God in the world, that the judgement of an everlasting punishment is just upon them; and they shall quake, and tremble, and shrink beneath the glance of his all-searching eye.

a2. Mosiah 16:11: If they be good, to the resurrection of endless life and happiness; and if they be evil, to the resurrection of endless damnation, being delivered up to the devil, who hath subjected them, which is damnation.

a3. Jacob 6:10: And according to the power of justice, for justice cannot be denied, ye must go away into that lake of fire and brimstone, whose flames are unquenchable, and whose smoke ascendeth up forever and ever, which lake of fire and brimstone is endless torment.

a4. 1 Nephi 15:35: And there is a place prepared, yea, even that awful hell of which I have spoken, and the devil is the preparator of it; wherefore the final state of the souls of men is to dwell in the kingdom of God, or to be cast out because of that justice of which I have spoken.

a5. 2 Nephi 2:29: And not choose eternal death, according to the will of the flesh and the evil which is therein, which giveth the spirit of the devil power to captivate, to bring you down to hell, that he may reign over you in his own kingdom.

a6. 2 Nephi 28:21-23: (21) And others will he pacify, and lull them away into carnal security, that they will say: All is will in Zion; yea, Zion prospereth, all is well—and thus the devil cheateth their souls, and leadeth them away carefully down to hell. (22) And behold, others he flattereth away, and telleth them there is no hell; and he saith unto them: I am no devil, for there is none—and thus he whispereth in their ears, until he grasps them with his awful chains, from whence there is no deliverance. (23) Yea, they are grasped with death, and hell; and death, and hell, and the devil, and all that have been seized therewith must stand before the throne of God, and be judged according to their works, from whence they must go into the place prepared for them, even a lake of fire and brimstone, which is endless torment.

a8. Alma 42:16: Now, repentance could not come unto men except there were a punishment, which also was eternal as the life of the soul should be, affixed opposite to the plan of happiness, which was as eternal also as the life of the soul.

b1. Elder Quentin L. Cook / Of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles: The marvelous doctrine revealed to the Prophet Joseph unveiled to us a plan of salvation that is applicable to all mankind, including those who do not hear of Christ in this life, children who die before the age of accountability, and those who have no understanding.

17 At death, righteous spirits live in a temporary state called paradise. Alma the Younger teaches us “paradise [is] a state of rest, a state of peace, where [the righteous] shall rest from all their troubles and from all care, and sorrow.”18 The unrighteous spirits dwell in spirit prison, sometimes referred to as hell.19 It is described as an awful place, a dark place where those fearful of the “indignation of the wrath of God” shall remain until the resurrection.20 However, because of the Atonement of Jesus Christ, all spirits blessed by birth will ultimately be resurrected, spirit and body reunited, and inherit kingdoms of glory that are superior to our existence here on earth.21 The exceptions are confined to those who, like Satan and his angels, willfully rebel against God.22 At the resurrection, the spirit prison or hell will deliver up its captive spirits. Jesus came into the world “to be crucified for the world, and to bear the sins of the world, and to sanctify the world, and to cleanse it from all unrighteousness.”23 The Savior said: “Let not your heart be troubled. … In my Father’s house are many mansions. … I go to prepare a place for you.”24 A succinct summary is provided in the book of Moses: “For behold, this is my work and my glory—to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of man.”25 After all the Savior has suffered for mankind, it is not surprising that in speaking of existing churches in the First Vision, He would instruct Joseph to “join none of them, for they were all wrong.”26 The Savior subsequently ushered in the Restoration of His true doctrine with respect to the plan of salvation and other saving principles such as the doctrine of Christ.27 But notwithstanding the significance of our doctrinal differences with other faiths, our attitude toward other churches has been to refrain from criticism. They do much good. They bless mankind. Many help their members learn of the Savior and His teachings.

A reporter for the Washington Post visited one of our Church meetings in Nigeria. The reporter interviewed one new member and told of his conversion. The reporter states:

“[He] said … he jumped off a city bus and walked into the [LDS Church building]. … He immediately liked what he heard inside [the chapel], especially that no one preached that people of other faiths were going to hell.”28 This echoes the feeling of numerous converts to the Church since its organization. Our leaders have consistently counseled us “to live with respect and appreciation for those not of our faith. There is so great a need for civility and mutual respect among those of differing beliefs and philosophies.”29

8. God is Spirit VS God is Not a Spirit

a1. Doc & Cov 93:23: Ye were also in the beginning with the Father; that which is Spirit, even the Spirit of truth.

Source: From <https://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/93?lang=eng>

a2. Alma 18:26-28: And then Ammon said: Believest thou that there is a Great Spirit? (27) And he said, Yea. (28) And Ammon said: This is God. And Ammon said unto him again: Believest thou that they Great Spirit, who is God, created all things all things which are in heaven and in the earth?

a3. Alma 22:9-11: (9) And the king said: Is God that Great Spirit that brought our fathers out of the land of Jerusalem? (10) And Aaron said unto him; Yea, he is that Great Spirit, and he created all things both in heaven and in earth. Believest thou this? (11) And he said: Yea, I believe that the Great Spirit created all things, and I desire that ye should tell me concerning all these things, and I will believe thy words.

b1. Doc & Cov 130:22: The Father has a body of flesh and bones as tangible as man’s; the Son also; but the Holy Ghost has not a body of flesh and bones, but is a personage of Spirit. Were it not so, the Holy Ghost could not dwell in us.

Source: https://www.lds.org/scriptures/dc-testament/dc/130?lang=eng>

9. God Cannot Lie Or Participate in Lies VS God Tells People to Lie

a1. Ether 3:12: And he answered: Yea, Lord, I know that thou speakest the truth, for thou are a God of truth, and can not lie.

a2. 2 Nephi 9:34: Wo unto the liar, for he shall be thrust down to hell.

b1. Pearl of Great Price: Abraham 2:22-24: (22) And it came to pass when I was come near to enter into Egypt, the Lord said unto me: Behold, Sarai, the wife, is a very fair woman to look upon; (23) Therefore it shall come to pass, when the Egyptians shall see her, they will say—She is he wife; and they will kill you, but they will save her alive; therefore see that you so on this wise: (24) Let her say unto the Egyptians, she is thy sister, and thy soul shall live.

Source:From <http://scriptures.byu.edu/#19202::c>

[Personal Note: INTERESTING TO NOTE: When Joseph Smith copied this from Genesis 12: 9-15 he COMPLETILY missed the mark. As the Scripture says, Abram told his wife to lie, and nowhere AT ALL did God have anything to do with the lie.

We see that in Genesis 20: 1- 11 Abraham pulled the same nonsense and almost got King Abimelech killed by God, but God kept the King from sinning and told the King to give Abrahams wife back to him. In Verse 10 King Abimelech asks Abraham why in the world he would do this thing and Abraham confesses: 11 And Abraham said, “Because I thought, surely there is no fear of God in this place; and they will kill me because of my wife.”

10. Jesus is the Great Mediator of All Men VS Only Joseph Smith is the Mediator

a1. 2 Nephi 2:26-28: (26) And the Messiah cometh in the fulness of time, that he may redeem the children of men from the fall. And because that they are redeemed from the fall they have become free forever, knowing good from evil; to act for themselves and not to be acted upon, save it be by the punishment of the law at the great and last day, according to the commandments which God hath given. (27) Wherefore, men are free according to the flesh; and all things are given them which are expedient unto man, or to choose capacity and death, according to the captivity and power of the devil; for he seeketh that all men might be miserable like unto himself. (28) And now, my sons, I would that ye should look to the great Mediator, and hearken unto his great commandments; and be faithful unto his words, and choose eternal life, according to the will of his Holy Spirit.

a2. Doc & Cov 76:69: These are they who are just men made perfect through Jesus the mediator of the new covenant, who wrought out this perfect atonement through the shedding of his own blood.

b1. Brigham Young, Journal of Discourses Vol. 7p. 289a (just before section p.289b): “-something that, to say the least, is a matter of deep regret to them—namely, that no man or woman in this dispensation will ever enter into the celestial kingdom of God without the consent of Joseph Smith. From the day that the Priesthood was taken from the earth to the winding-up scene of all things, every man and woman must have the certificate of Joseph Smith, junior, as a passport to their entrance into the mansion where God and Christ are—I with you and you with me. I cannot go there without his consent. He holds the keys of that kingdom for the last dispensation—the keys to rule in the spirit world; and he rules there triumphantly, for he gained full power and a glorious victory over the power of Satan while he was yet in the flesh, and was a martyr to his religion and to the name of Christ, which gives him a most perfect victory in the spirit world. He reigns there as supreme a being in his sphere, capacity, and calling, as God does in heaven.

11. There is No Salvation After Death VS Many Will be Saved After Death

a1. Mosiah 2:38,39: (38) Therefore if that man repenteth not, and remaineth and dieth an enemy to God, the demands of divine justice do awaken his immortal soul to a lively sense of his own guilt, which doth cause him to shrink from the presence of the Lord, and doth fill his breast with guilt, and pain, and anguish, which is like an unquenchable fire, whose flame ascendeth up forever and ever. (39) And now I say unto you, that mercy hath no claim on that man; therefore his final doom is to endure a never-ending torment.

a2. Alma 34:32-35: (32) For behold, this life is the time for men to prepare to meet God; yea, behold the day of this life is the day for men to perform their labors. (33) And now, as I said unto you before, as ye have had so many witnesses, therefore, I beseech of you that ye do not procrastinate the day of your repentance until the end; for after this day of life, which is given us to prepare for eternity, behold, if we do not improve our time while in this life, then cometh the night of darkness wherein there can be no labor performed. (34) Ye cannot say, when ye are brought to that awful crisis, that I will repent, that I will return to my God. Nay, ye cannot say this; for that same spirit which doth possess your bodies at the time that ye go out of this life, that same spirit will have power to possess your body in that eternal world. (35) For behold, if ye have procrastinated the day of your repentance even until death, behold, ye have become subjected to the spirit of the devil, and he doth seal you his; therefore, the Spirit of the Lord hath withdrawn from you, and hath no place in you, and the devil hath all power over you; and this is the final state of the wicked.

b2.D&C 88:99: And after this another angel shall sound, which is the second trump; and then cometh the redemption of those who are Christ’s at his coming; who have received their part in that prison which is prepared for them, that they might receive the gospel, and be judged according to men in the flesh. <http://scriptures.byu.edu/#12e58:t1119d:n>

12. Murderers Can Find Forgiveness VS Murderers Can Never Be Forgiven

a1. 3 Nephi 30: 1,2:(1) Hearken, O ye Gentiles, and hear the words of Jesus Christ, the Son of the living God, which he hath commanded me that I should speak concerning you, for, behold he commandeth me that I should write, saying: (2) Turn, all ye Gentiles, from your wicked ways; and repent of your evil doings, of your lyings and deceivings, and of your whoredoms, and of your secret abominations, and your idolatries, and of your murders, and your priestcrafts, and your envyings, and your strifes, and from all your wickedness and abominations, and come unto me, and be baptized in my name, that ye may receive a remission of your sins, and be filled with the Holy Ghost, that ye may be numbered with my people who are of the house of Israel.

b1. DOC & COV 42:17-19:(17) For, behold, the Comforter knoweth all things, and beareth record of the Father and of the Son.(18) And now, behold, I speak unto the church. Thou shalt not kill; and he that kills shall not have forgiveness in this world, nor in the world to come. (19) And again, I say, thou shalt not kill; but he that killeth shall die.

13. Plurality of Marriage is a Gross Abomination to God VS Plurality of Marriage is Permitted & An Everlasting Covenant

a1. Official Declaration 1: I, therefore, as President of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, do hereby, in the most solemn manner, declare that these charges are false. We are not teaching polygamy or plural marriage, nor permitting any person to enter into its practice,

a2. Jacob 1: 15:15 And now it came to pass that the people of Nephi, under the reign of the second king, began to grow hard in their hearts, and indulge themselves somewhat in wicked practices, such as like unto David of old desiring many wives and concubines, and also Solomon, his son.

a3. Jacob 2: 22-28: (22) And now I make an end of speaking unto you concerning this pride. And were it not that I must speak unto you concerning a grosser crime, my heart would rejoice exceedingly because of you. (23) But the word of God burdens me because of your grosser crimes. For behold, thus saith the Lord: This people begin to wax in iniquity; they understand not the scriptures, for they seek to excuse themselves in committing whoredoms, because of the things which were written concerning David, and Solomon his son. (24) Behold, David and Solomon truly had many wives and concubines, which thing was abominable before me, saith the Lord. (25) Wherefore, thus saith the Lord, I have led this people forth out of the land of Jerusalem, by the power of mine arm, that I might raise up unto me a righteous branch from the fruit of the loins of Joseph. (26) Wherefore, I the Lord God will not suffer that this people shall do like unto them of old. (27) Wherefore, my brethren, hear me, and hearken to the word of the Lord: For there shall not any man among you have save it be one wife; and concubines he shall have none; (28) For I, the Lord God, delight in the chastity of women. And whoredoms are an abomination before me; thus saith the Lord of Hosts.

a4. Jacob 3: 5: Behold, the Lamanites your brethren, whom ye hate because of their filthiness and the cursing which hath come upon their skins, are more righteous than you; for they have not forgotten the commandment of the Lord, which was given unto our father—that they should have save it were one wife, and concubines they should have none, and there should not be whoredoms committed among them.

a5.DOCS & COV 42: 22-26: (22) Thou shalt love thy wife with all thy heart, and shalt cleave unto her and none else. (23) And he that looketh upon a woman to lust after her shall deny the faith, and shall not have the Spirit; and if he repents not he shall be cast out. (24) Thou shalt not commit adultery; and he that committeth adultery, and repenteth not, shall be cast out. (25) But he that has committed adultery and repents with all his heart, and forsaketh it, and doeth it no more, thou shalt forgive; (26) But if he doeth it again, he shall not be forgiven, but shall be cast out.

a6. Mosiah 11:2  (Talking about Noah’s Unrighteousness): For behold, he did not keep the commandments of God, but he did walk after the desires of his own heart. And he had many wives and concubines. And he did cause his people to commit sin, and do that which was abominable in the sight of the Lord. Yea, and they did commit whoredoms and all manner of wickedness.

b1. DOC & COV 132: 1, 32-39: Verily, thus saith the Lord unto you my servant Joseph, that inasmuch as you have inquired of my hand to know and understand wherein I, the Lord, justified my servants Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, as also Moses, David and Solomon, my servants, as touching the principle and doctrine of their having many wives and concubines

(32-39): Abraham received concubines, and they bore him children; and it was accounted unto him for righteousness, because they were given unto him, and he abode in my law; as Isaac also and Jacob did none other things than that which they were commanded; and because they did none other things than that which they were commanded, they have entered into their exaltation, according to the promises, and sit upon thrones, and are not angels but are gods. 38 David also received many wives and concubines, and also Solomon and Moses my servants, as also many others of my servants, from the beginning of creation until this time; and in nothing did they sin save in those things which they received not of me. 39 David’s wives and concubines were given unto him of me, by the hand of Nathan, my servant, and others of the prophets who had the keys of this power; and in none of these things did he sin against me save in the case of Uriah and his wife; and, therefore he hath fallen from his exaltation, and received his portion; and he shall not inherit them out of the world, for I gave them unto another, saith the Lord.

AND Further in the Same Message

b2. D&C 132: 61-65: (61) And again, as pertaining to the law of the priesthood—if any man espouse a virgin, and desire to espouse another, and the first give her consent, and if he espouse the second, and they are virgins, and have vowed to no other man, then is he justified; he cannot commit adultery for they are given unto him; for he cannot commit adultery with that that belongeth unto him and to no one else. (62) And if he have ten virgins given unto him by this law, he cannot commit adultery, for they belong to him, and they are given unto him; therefore is he justified. (63) But if one or either of the ten virgins, after she is espoused, shall be with another man, she has committed adultery, and shall be destroyed; for they are given unto him to multiply and replenish the earth, according to my commandment, and to fulfil the promise which was given by my Father before the foundation of the world, and for their exaltation in the eternal worlds, that they may bear the souls of men; for herein is the work of my Father continued, that he may be glorified. (64) And again, verily, verily, I say unto you, if any man have a wife, who holds the keys of this power, and he teaches unto her the law of my priesthood, as pertaining to these things, then shall she believe and administer unto him, or she shall be destroyed, saith the Lord your God; for I will destroy her; for I will magnify my name upon all those who receive and abide in my law. (65) Therefore, it shall be lawful in me, if she receive not this law, for him to receive all things whatsoever I, the Lord his God, will give unto him, because she did not believe and administer unto him according to my word; and she then becomes the transgressor; and he is exempt from the law of Sarah, who administered unto Abraham according to the law when I commanded Abraham to take Hagar to wife.

14. We are Justified by Faith VS We are Not Justified by Faith

a1. 2 Nephi 2:4-7: (4) And thou hast beheld in thy youth his glory; wherefore, thou art blessed even as they unto whom he shall minister in the flesh; for the Spirit is the same, yesterday, today, and forever. And the way is prepared from the fall of man, and salvation is free. (5) And men are instructed sufficiently that they know good from evil. And the law is given unto men. And by the law no flesh is justified; or, by the law men are cut off. Yea, by the temporal law they were cut off; and also, by the spiritual law they perish from that which is good, and become miserable forever. (6) Wherefore, redemption cometh in and through the Holy Messiah; for he is full of grace and truth. (7) Behold, he offereth himself a sacrifice for sin, to answer the ends of the law, unto all those who have a broken heart and a contrite spirit; and unto none else can the ends of the law be answered.

b1. DOC & COV 88: 21-34: (21) And they who are not sanctified through the law which I have given unto you, even the law of Christ, must inherit another kingdom, even that of a terrestrial kingdom, or that of a telestial kingdom. (22) For he who is not able to abide the law of a celestial kingdom cannot abide a celestial glory. (23) And he who cannot abide the law of a terrestrial kingdom cannot abide a terrestrial glory. (24) And he who cannot abide the law of a telestial kingdom cannot abide a telestial glory; therefore he is not meet for a kingdom of glory. Therefore he must abide a kingdom which is not a kingdom of glory. (25) And again, verily I say unto you, the earth abideth the law of a celestial kingdom, for it filleth the measure of its creation, and transgresseth not the law— (26) Wherefore, it shall be sanctified; yea, notwithstanding it shall die, it shall be quickened again, and shall abide the power by which it is quickened, and the righteous shall inherit it. (27) For notwithstanding they die, they also shall rise again, a spiritual body. (28) They who are of a celestial spirit shall receive the same body which was a natural body; even ye shall receive your bodies, and your glory shall be that glory by which your bodies are quickened. (29) Ye who are quickened by a portion of the celestial glory shall then receive of the same, even a fulness. (30) And they who are quickened by a portion of the terrestrial glory shall then receive of the same, even a fulness. (31) And also they who are quickened by a portion of the telestial glory shall then receive of the same, even a fulness. (32) And they who remain shall also be quickened; nevertheless, they shall return again to their own place, to enjoy that which they are willing to receive, because they were not willing to enjoy that which they might have received. (33) For what doth it profit a man if a gift is bestowed upon him, and he receive not the gift? Behold, he rejoices not in that which is given unto him, neither rejoices in him who is the giver of the gift. (34) And again, verily I say unto you, that which is governed by law is also preserved by law and perfected and sanctified by the same.

A Few Things To Think About…

The reason I even decided to research contradictions within Mormon (LDS) Doctrine, is because I found it most effective in causing honest Mormons to look at these contradictions and do their best to reconcile them. These are not just contradictions that can be explained away by saying “Oh, they are not essential teachings, so we can agree to disagree on some of these things…no big deal.” No, these contradictions—according to the LDS—are places where they want to convince us that God disagrees with Himself. That’s nonsense.

If the LDS church wants anyone to believe and trust that the ‘most correct book every written’ is, in fact, the divine Word of God; and, that the teachings and prophecies of various LDS prophets (especially Joseph Smith and Brigham Young) were truly being spoken through by the Holy Spirit, then they must explain why God keeps disagreeing with Himself, and in some cases calling Him own teachings ‘false’.

God never contradicts Himself. Whenever anyone sees this happen, they can be certain that they either (1) did not read the content in context, or (2) they misread something or, (3) the Book of Mormon or the Prophet are false.
